Stella Lou (Van Fossen) Davis departed this life Monday (May 5, 2014).
She was born May 18, 1927, to the late John and Agnes Van Fossen. A graduate of Pennsville High School, and having received advanced credits in elementary teaching from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, she began teaching in 1946 at Roseville, Ohio.
On June 26, 1948, she married Claude S. Davis and to this union were born five children: Michael (Nancy), David (Peggy), Beth (Dan) Davis, Ruth (Brad) Forshey, Martha (Scott) Turner, as well as eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, a sister Esther Abbott and seven nieces and nephews.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother, and grandma, Stella taught children in sight-saving classes and elementary school. She later worked for and retired from the J.C. Penney store in Marietta. Stella was a faithful and dedicated Christian, being a member of the Church of Christ from 1946 through the time of her death. With her late husband, she attended several rural churches of Christ throughout southeastern Ohio, most recently making her home congregation with the Sixth and Washington Streets Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Willard and husband.
The family will receive friends at Hadley Funeral Home, 500 Fifth St., Marietta on Friday (May 9, 2014) from 3 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday. Ministers Harmon Thomas and Roger Rush will officiate the funeral on Saturday (May 10, 2014) at 11 a.m. at the Sixth and Washington Streets Church of Christ. Burial will be in McConnelsville Cemetery, McConnelsville, Ohio.
