A deputy and the Newport Fire Department were dispatched to a fire Wednesday on the property of Cory E. Knox, 30, at 1719 Rosenbush Road, Newport. An RV that Knox was working on caught on fire a short time after he finished working on it for the evening. The fire completely destroyed the RV and led to the death of four pet rabbits that were kept near the camper. The cause of the fire appears to be electrical in nature.
An employee of Salem Township reported Wednesday that sometime overnight an unknown suspect(s) stole a large amount of scrap from a township dumpster located at the intersection of Davis Road and Ohio 821. Among the scrap were various lengths of copper pipe, a washing machine and vehicle parts.

William E. Williams, 51, of 23875 Leith Run Road, New Matamoras, was arrested Saturday for violating the terms of his probation, a misdemeanor.
Ashley N. Cline, 25, of 106 Wood St., Marietta, was arrested Sunday for disorderly conduct by intoxication and for violating the terms of her probation, both misdemeanors.
Felicia C. Jackson, 33, of 100 Simpson St., Marietta, was arrested Monday for four felony counts of trafficking in drugs.
Jerry D. Smith, 27, of 1483 Dutton Hill Road, Macksburg, was arrested Monday for violating the terms of his probation, a felony.
Dennis E. Herndon III, 27, of 311 Walnut St., Lowell, was arrested Monday for failure to appear in a civil matter.
Shawn M. Mulligan, 32, of 715 Barclay St. Lot 33, Belpre, was arrested Monday for two felony counts of trafficking in drugs. :
Preston William Eakins, 23, of 1105 Putnam Howell Drive, Belpre, was arrested Wednesday for failure to appear, a felony.
James Benjamin Cline, 37, of 660 Cornerville Road, Marietta, was arrested Wednesday for three misdemeanor counts of domestic violence.
