From local reports
Hidden Places Secret Spaces offers an inside look at unique locations throughout historic downtown Marietta.
On Saturday, May 17, program participants will have access to normally off-limits areas of five historic buildings, each with a hidden space and unique history. The buildings will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Participants visit the stops at their own pace and in whatever order they like. A host at each location will provide information about that building's story.
Pick up tickets and maps at the Marietta Main Street office before embarking upon the tour. Highlights will be the visiting oldest commercial building in town and going underground for a look at what the original Marietta Street level would have been like.
"People don't realize the wonders that these empty buildings and basements hold," said Lynne Sturtevant of Hidden Marietta. "There is such a rich history to the area and each of these spaces has a unique story waiting to be told."
After the tour is completed there will be social time from 4 to 6 p.m. with a cash bar at the Adelphia Music Hall. During this time participants in the tour will be able to chat about the local history, downtown revitalization efforts and upcoming Marietta Main Street or Hidden Marietta programs.
Tickets for the event are $15 per person and can be purchased the day of the event or prior to it from the Marietta Main Street office located at 132 Putnam St. For more information: (740) 885-8194.
