WATERFORD - Waterford's Clay Hayes produced the timeliest of hits Monday in a prep baseball game against Trimble.
Hayes stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Waterford trailing 3-0. Hayes sent a Caullin Lunsford offering over the fence for a grand slam to give the Wildcats a 4-3 lead. For good measure, Hayes relieved Montana Brooker on the mound in the seventh inning, allowing a hit but keeping Trimble off the scoreboard to give Waterford the win.
Brooker pitched the first six innings, striking out two and walking four. He allowed three hits and three runs (two earned) to pick up the win.
Lunsford also went six innings, striking out four and walking four in the losing effort.
Both teams recorded three hits in the game. Waterford overcame seven errors in the field.

POMEROY - Tournament play came to an end for Marietta Monday.
The Tigers dropped a wild 4-3 decision to the Marauders in a game where Marietta batters walked 13 times and struck out 14 times.
Marietta scored two runs in the second inning and one in the fourth, all without the benefit of a hit, to take a 3-0 lead. Meigs came back with a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings each to go ahead 4-3.
The Tigers loaded the bases with one out in the seventh but Austin Hefter's sharp ground ball to third was turned into a double play that ended the game and Marietta's postseason.
Zach Robinson started on the mound for Marietta, striking out five and walking four. He was pulled with one out in the sixth. Danford finished the inning, striking out one and walking one.
Cody Bartrum earned the mound victory for Meigs, striking out four and walking three in 3.1 innings of relief. Marauders' starter Ty Phelps had an unusual line, striking out 10 Marietta batters but also walking 10 in a no-decision.
Chase Witlach went 3-for-3 with two runs scored in the game to lead Meigs' offense.
Josh Moretto had a double and Michael Ullman had a single for Marietta's only hits.
The Tigers (11-12) have a makeup game against River View Wednesday.
