93-year-old author holds book signing
A book signing of "Little Toes" by Erma Channell Cale will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday at the Congregational Church fellowship hall on Main Street in Belpre. At almost 93 years old Cale has published her poetry including her early life in the coal mining community of Canaanville, the Depression and being a veteran of World War II.
Beverly to flush hydrants Monday
The Village of Beverly Volunteer Fire Department will be testing and flushing fire hydrants in Beverly and Waterford on Monday. If water becomes discolored, run the water until it becomes clear.
Evening walk at wildlife refuge
Presenter Lynn Barnhart will host an evening walk at 8 p.m. May 27 at the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge. Learn what to look and listen for to spot the wildlife that comes out at night. Fireflies will be the focus of this program. All ages are welcome. The program will be held at the Refuge Visitor Center at 3982 Waverly Road, Williamstown. In the event of inclement weather an alternative indoor program will be provided. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Ohio River Islands NWR.

Older American's month health fair
The Marietta Family YMCA will host an Older American Month Health, Wellness, and Recreation Fair from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. May 29 at the Y, 300 N. Seventh St. Marietta.

Youth fishing derby is Sunday 1 to 3 p.m.
The Washington County Fish and Game annual Youth Fishing Derby will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at 2100 Duck Creek Road, Whipple. The derby is for those ages 1 to 17. There will be trophies for each age group, concessions, a 50/50, raffles and a country store as well as gifts for all children.
Hand bell choirs to perform Sunday
Five local hand bell choirs will join together for a Spring Ring at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption, 506 Fourth St., Marietta. The concert is free and open to the public. Hand bell choirs participating are the Christ United Methodist Church, Saint Luke's Lutheran Church, First Presbyterian Church, St. Mary Catholic Church and the Mid Ohio Valley Ringers.
