WILLIAMSTOWN - Officials with the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport are upset by at recent breaking and entering incident, but pleased to be able to help authorities find the suspect.
"There's not a lot I can talk about since it is an ongoing investigation, but we are surprised this happened," said airport manager Jeff McDougle. "We have never had anything like this occur before that any of us can remember; I even called (former manager) Terry (Moore) and he doesn't know of any instance in the last eight years or so."
Sometime between 11:30 p.m. Sunday and 12:30 a.m. Monday, an unknown suspect broke into the airport's management offices by going through the terminal into the locked office through a drop ceiling, according to the Wood County Sheriff's Office. Several items, including a laptop, were stolen, but details including the items' value are not available.
"The man in the security footage is not an airport employee," McDougle said. "I have no idea who he is and have never seen him before."
The suspect is described as a white male with dark hair, but McDougle said deputies with the sheriff's office were pleased with the quality of the surveillance footage.
"They said they never get footage that clear, but at this time everything is up in the air - other than we have some great pictures of him," McDougle said. "But all of our security is high definition, so I have faith he will be caught."
Because of federal regulations on security at airport facilities, all of the local equipment is as up-to-date as possible.
"We have no idea what this guy was after because we have very little at the airport and no money or safe," McDougle said. "It is bizarre, but we are keeping our fingers crossed he will be found and arrested."
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Wood County Sheriff's Office at 304-424-1942.
