BELPRE - Strutting their stuff Hollywood-style, pups of all proportions turned out Saturday for the grand opening of the new Boxers Bed & Biscuits on Braun Road near Belpre.
Celebrating a new and larger facility, boxers and beagles, shizukas to schnauzers dressed as Divine Divas like Madonna, Lady Gaga, Marilyn Monroe and Tina Turner alongside Wonder Woman and even a paparazzi complete with camera strolled the red carpet for a panel of judges that included Belpre Mayor Mike Lorentz.
The Hollywood Hounds competed for titles like "Best Tale Wagger," "Best Tricks" and "Best Dressed." Saturday's grand opening featured tours of the new facility for pet owners and pets. To the sounds of "Who Let the Dogs Out" and "Ain't Nothin' but a Hound Dog," there were cold refreshments for hounds and humans, cool wadders for pups and peanut-butter flavored doggie biscuits.

Marketing itself as a fine hotel and spa for dogs and cats, the pet grooming and boarding facility first opened its doors in 2011 in Little Hocking, but has since relocated to 4474 Braun Road just outside the city of Belpre.
"We literally outgrew our first facility. We have only been open for three years, and after two years, we quickly found we needed more space. We wanted to have a homey atmosphere, but when you're working with that many dogs, you have to watch the flow, we realized we needed a larger facility with more indoor play area," said Angie Beck, co-owner of Boxers Bed & Biscuits.
The dog/cat hotel, with a total staff of 16 humans, has had 20,000 pet bookings in its three years of operation. The Little Hocking facility offered 20 private dog suites and the new facility has 50 suites.
"I've never seen anything like this, it's very nice, it should do very well out here," Lorentz said.
The facility features a grooming area, large areas for indoor and outdoor play, there are condos in Kitty City and exercise areas. There are special charts kept with information on medications, problems, special diets or other concerns for each guest, colorful suites complete with doggie beds, and toys.
