Blaine Bowers, 94, of Minerva, Ohio, formerly of Mt. Morris, Pa., died at 5:10 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2014, in the Minerva Eldercare in Minerva.
He was born Sunday, Jan. 4, 1920, in Mt. Morris, a son of the late George H. Bowers and Enid McElroy Bowers.
Mr. Bowers was a Protestant by faith. He was a Veteran of WWII, having served with the United States Army in the Pacific Theater of Operation. He was a charter member and past commander of the James T. Maxon American Legion Post 992 of Mt. Morris and a Life member of the D.A.V. in Marietta. He worked as the national lumber inspector for the National Hardwood Association. He retired from Haessly Lumber Co. in Marietta in 1983.
His wife, Mary Knotts Bowers, whom he married on Oct. 8, 1939, died Nov. 28, 2002.
Surviving are one daughter: Elaine Collins, East Rochester, Ohio; one son: Warren B. Bowers, of Mt. Morris; four grandchildren, Michelle Paugh, Duane Bowers, Debbie Cheek and Ronald Collins; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was the last of his immediate family
He was preceded in death by one son, who died in infancy; two grandchildren, Timothy Collins and Jean Collins; two sisters: Lonal Hogan and Violet Sullivan; and one brother, Morgan P. Bowers
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. today in the Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home, 324 Mt. Morris Road, P.O. Box 478, Mount Morris, Pa. 15349. Services are 11 a.m. today at the funeral home with the Rev. Joseph Weaver and the Rev. Frank Vucic officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview-Kiger Cemetery,Whiteley Township, Greene County, Pa. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the James T. Maxon American Legion Post 992 and representatives of the U.S. Army. Information is online at milliken-throckmortonfh.com.
