Alison Mellor Wigton, 72, of Upper Marlboro, Md., died on Sunday, June 15, at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Md. The cause was complications from chemotherapy treatment for cancer.
She was born on Sept. 30, 1941, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Howard and Carolyn Mellor.
She graduated from Marietta College in Ohio, and married William Holmes ("Bill") Wigton on Aug. 3, 1963, after which they joined the United States Peace Corps and served two years together in Ethiopia. She worked as a special education teacher for 20 years and during that time also obtained master's and doctorate degrees from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
She is survived by her husband Bill; their two children, Robert Wigton, of Lothian Md.; and Alyssa (Wigton) Sharkey of New York, N.Y.; and four grandchildren, Matthew and Olivia Wigton and Thomas and Katherine Sharkey.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday June 28, at Village Baptist Church, 1950 Mitchellville Rd, Bowie, Md. 20716.
