Local athletes from WASCO, Inc. and representatives from law enforcement and military participate in the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run Wednesday morning in Marietta. Participants took turns carrying the torch down Third, Greene, Front and Putnam streets to raise awareness and funds that will help cover the costs for athletes to participate in Special Olympics Ohio (SOOH). The games promote confidence and physical fitness in children and adults with developmental disabilities. Several local athletes will participate in Special Olympics Ohio this weekend in Columbus. Marietta resident Alicia Lee, 25, said she is looking forward to another year of competing. “I just like being with my friends and being able to have fun,” said Lee, who will participate in a relay race, the 400 meter run, and shot put events. Tax deductible donations to SOOH can be dropped off or mailed to any Ohio State Highway Patrol post.
