Richard Lee Staton

Richard Lee Staton, 72, of Dunkirk, Ind., passed away peacefully at his home, with family by his side, early Tuesday, June 24, 2014. He was born July 25, 1941, in Dunkirk, Ind. the son of Kenneth and Mary Jane (Smith) Staton.

Richard retired as a Glass Foreman after more than 34 years with Indiana Glass of Dunkirk, Ind. He was a self-employed house painter for more than 50 years. He had also had worked with Fenton Art Glass of Williamstown and was a custodian of Marietta Schools for 11 years. Richard enjoyed spending his leisure time watching Indiana University Basketball and Indianapolis Colts Football; and practicing his art of golfing and fishing. With all the time of work and leisure, nothing was more important to him than spending time with his family. He was a member of the Dunkirk Moose Lodge.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of 32 years, Debra; three sons, Michael Staton (wife, Kara) of Muncie, Ind., Jonathan Staton and Jeff Hitchens (wife, Karen) all of Dunkirk, Ind.; three daughters, Michelle Moore of Marion, Ind., Lisa Staton Wells (Jason) of Marietta and Marla Palmer (husband, Ryan) of Gilbert, Ariz.; two brothers, Thomas Staton (Cindy) of Pennville, Ind. and James Staton (wife, Janet) of Parkersburg; two sisters, Kathleen Christie of Dunkirk, Ind. and Carolyn Otto (husband, Dennis) of Pennville, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Staton; and a brother-in-law, Frank.

A memorial service to celebrate Richard's life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Dunkirk Memorial Chapel of Dunkirk, Ind. Burial will follow in Dunkirk IOOF Cemetery of Dunkirk, Ind. Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 27 at the funeral home.
