Fourteen consecutive runners reached base in the top of the ninth inning as St. Marys Post 79 scored 11 times en route to a 14-4 victory over the Herb Baseball Academy Friday night at Don Schaly Stadium.
Trailing 4-3 heading to the final frame, SM strung together eight basehits and took advantage of six base-on-balls to turn the one-run deficit into a double-digit lead.
St. Marys struck first in the top of the second inning on an RBI single by left fielder Luke Cooper, but Herb scored three unearned runs in the last half of the inning to take a 3-1 lead.
Post 79 committed a pair of errors in the second to extend the inning and Herb third baseman Romy Casey made them pay with a two-out, two-run single.
St. Marys scored an unearned run of their own in the third inning to trim the lead to one but Herb answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the third off of SM starting pitcher Tyler Davis to stretch the lead to 4-2.
