'Moth Night' planned at area refuge
The Friends of Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge will sponsor a "Moth Night" program at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Join Master Naturalist Emily Grafton for an in-depth program about moths. This will include an introduction to moths and an observation opportunity of native species. The program will be held at the Refuge Visitor Center, 3982 Waverly Road, Williamstown. Closed toed shoes are recommended. The program is free and approximately 90 minutes long.
L-A Fire annual ice cream social
The L-A Fire & Rescue will holds its annual Ice Cream Social starting at 4 p.m. Saturday on Buell Island in Lowell. Food available will include fish, fries, hot dogs, sloppy joes, cole slaw, baked beans, McKitrick's Ice Cream, cake and pie. There will be a raffle, country store, bingo, games for children, a hay ride and inflatables. The Space Chickens will perform starting at 5 p.m.
Church to host music workshop
A community music workshop for children in second to sixth grade will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily July 21-24 at the First Presbyterian Church in Williamstown. Participants will learn about rhythm, make instruments, take part in a special service activity and meet special guest musicians. The workshop is free of charge and lunch will be provided daily. You do not need to be a member of the church to attend. Registration is available the day of the event or in advance by calling 304-375-6211.
5K?walk and run for disability rights
The first Walk n Roll for Disability Rights, a 5K walk or run hosted by the Supporters of Disability Rights in the Mid-Ohio Valley, will be held at 10 a.m. July 27 along the Muskingum River. Registration is open and pre-registration is encouraged. Participants can request a registration form by calling 525-2850, emailing email@example.com or visiting rivercityrunners.com. The pre-registration cost is $12 until July 14. Post-entry and race day cost is $15. T-shirts are guaranteed to the first 100 pre-registered participants.

American Legion holds steak fry
Beverly Post 389 of The American Legion will hold a public steak fry from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 26 at the post, 114 Main St., Beverly.
