WILLIAMSTOWN - Williamstown High has practically everyone back from last year's 12-4-2 girls' soccer team.
The Mike Albertson-coached Lady Yellowjackets did lose three ladies to transfers, including starter Lindsey Noelle Stanley, but also picked up four new players.
"I'm expecting 19 on the field when we begin practice on the first Monday in August," said Albertson, who will be in his second season at the girls' helm. "When we had our three-week conditioning and orientation allowed by West Virginia at the end of June and the beginning of July, we had 12 to 15 girls come out. In the summer, it's hard because some of the girls are multi-sport athletes, and some are on vacation."

The Williamstown High School girls soccer team tri-captains again this season will be, from left, keeper Heather Albertson, stopper Hannah Jarvis and midfielder Laura Petty. Last fall, Albertson and and Petty were all-state honorees.
Last year was Williamstown's first as a girls' soccer program. Prior to that, it was a maroon and gold co-ed team, which posted a 15-3-2 mark and advanced to the Class AA/A regional final.
"It was a good experience for some of the girls on that (2012) team," Albertson said. "Because last season, the girls meshed together pretty well.
"I was a little nervous before the season started, but then I saw what they could do."

The Lady Yellowjackets only wished they could've gone further in postseason play, as they bowed out 1-0 to Herbert Hoover in a sectional match.
Williamstown went from zero seniors on the roster last fall to three this upcoming campaign. Last fall, Heather Albertson (coach's daughter) and Laura Petty each was an all-state honoree at goalkeeper and midfielder, respectively.
The younger Albertson was solid between the pipes with a 12-4-1 mark. One of three tri-captains on the squad, she allowed an average of 1.2 goals per contest.
Petty, another tri-cap, was the leading scorer with 21 goals and 8 assists.
The other senior on the team is Caitlyn Conner, a transfer from Pennsylvania. She's expected to play at the striker or midfield position. Hannah Jarvis, the third tri-cap, is one of four juniors on the 2014 roster. Last season, she played on defense at the stopper position.
"We'll probably be in a 4-4-2 (alignment) on the field again," Mike Albertson said.
Kylie Powell (midfielder/striker), Megan Wallace (midfielder/striker), first-year player Taylor Elliott are the other juniors.
The coach said there are also 11 sophomores (Sydney Hill, Jensen Newton, Sydney Palmer, Ally McMullen, Ellie Gardner, Aubrey Teer, Victoria Clark, Victoria Buckley, Ashley Morris, Lindsey Nicole Stanley, and Hope Wilson) and one freshman (Emily Pickering) on the team.
McMullen was the team's second leading scorer with 15 goals and seven assists. Hill had nine goals and four assists, and Teer notched five goals and two assists.
"Last year, I think we caught some teams by surprise," Albertson said. "And, then we just kept getting better and stronger.
"We've beefed up our schedule this season. And, our goal is still to get to Beckley (and the state tournament)."
In Williamstown's section is defending state champion Sissonville, Ravenswood, and Herbert Hoover. In the other section is Charleston Catholic.
Also on the schedule this season will be Parkersburg South (Oct. 14) and Marietta (Aug. 28).
Williamstown is slated to scrimmage the Parkersburg Big Reds Aug. 13.
"We've got to play good teams like this," Albertson said. "It'll be a challenge, and we're looking forward to the season."
