Head Start preschool plans open house
Washington-Morgan Community Action Head Start preschool will hold an open house at the Jane Edwards Center (formerly Norwood School) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday. Families are welcome to stop by, view a classroom and talk to the coordinators. There will be a bounce house, preschool obstacle course, fire trucks, snacks and more.
Head Start is a free preschool for income-eligible families specializing in kindergarten readiness and child development, and has been serving Washington County for more than 40 years through classrooms and in-home options.

Rabies shot clinic at Barlow shelter
The Washington County Health Department will hold a rabies shot clinic from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Barlow Fairgrounds Shelter in Barlow. The cost is $7 per animal. Dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in carriers. All animals must be at least 12 weeks old.

Oak Grove VFD will hold ice cream social
The Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department's annual ice cream social will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday at 102 Oak Grove Lane, Marietta. There will be a barbecue chicken dinner, hot dogs, sloppy joes, ice cream, live music, a medical helicopter display, inflatables and games for children along with bingo, a country store and a 50/50 drawing.

Health screening Friday at Rinky Dink
A free screening and education for cholesterol, blood pressure and diabetes will be available to the community from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at Rinky Dink Flea Market, 404 Fort Harmar Drive, Marietta. Total cholesterol and glucose can be non-fasting. Lipid Panel (cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL & LDL) requires fasting for nine to 12 hours. Screenings and health information will be provided by the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine's Community Health Programs. Registration is not required.
