Lane on Putnam St. will be closed today
The northbound lanes of the 200 block of Putnam Street in Marietta are expected to be closed until at least 5 p.m. today as repairs on water lines continue.
Frontier orientation Aug. 14 in cafeteria
The Frontier High and Middle School orientation for incoming seventh graders and new students will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 14 in the cafetorium. Registration is not required. Classes for students start Aug. 21.

Armory open during merchants/artist walk
The Armory on Front Street in Marietta will be open to the public Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. during the Merchants and Artist Walk. Tours will be free and people are invited to see the completed structural repairs and the new windows and doors.
Honeybee program at O'Neill Center
A program on honey bees will be presented at 1 p.m. Aug. 18 at the O'Neill Center in Marietta. Sam and Joyce Hammett, members of Ohio State Beekeepers Association and owners of Anam-Cara Apiary, will cover areas of honeybee keeping that include equipment, techniques, healthy life of a bee, challenges and extracting the honey. Ladies auxiliary will serve dinner Aug. 15
The Beverly Eagles Ladies Auxiliary will be serving hot dogs, sloppy joes, macaroni salad and dessert at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 15. Prices will be posted at the club. A Chinese Auction will be held during the dinner. Tickets are 10 for $1.
Genealogical Society plans picnic meeting
The Washington County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will hold the annual picnic meeting at noon Saturday at the Gardner home, 1645 County Road 9, Marietta. Meat, rolls, drinks and eating utensils will be provided. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish to share.
Student council will hold car wash Friday
The Waterford High School student council will hold a car wash from 9 a.m. to noon Friday in the Waterford Elementary School parking lot. The cost is a donation. All proceeds will go to the student council to use for activities throughout the school year.
