Beverly Jean (Atkins) Etter, 87, passed away Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at Emeritus Palm Court in Hilton Head, S.C.
She was born March 10, 1927, in Youngstown, Ohio, to the late Estie H. Atkins.
Jean was raised in Akron, Ohio, and attended Fraunfelter Grade School and graduated from Central High School in 1945.
She met Joe Etter while he was working in Akron. They later married and moved to Marietta, Ohio, and raised their family of four. They were married for 60 years.
Later in life they moved to Barberton, Ohio, to be closer to their daughter Jane. A few years after her husband's death, she moved to Hilton Head, S.C.
While in school, she took dance lessons and performed on the Palace Stage in downtown Akron. If you knew her, you knew that! She could tap dance and do the high leg kicks like the Rockettes.
She loved gardening and could make anything grow. She always had something in bloom early spring into fall.
Raising her children was her top priority. She was truly a selfless mother and we always knew she loved us. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a great blessing and joy to her.
She is survived by her three children, Carol Jean Etter of Barberton, Ohio; Joseph Etter (Mary Jo) of Hilton Head, SC.; James Atkins Etter of Flower Mound, Texas; five grandchildren, Clarin Amanda Hill (John), Marisa Leigh Etter, Caroline Elizabeth ODonnell (Mike), Caitlyn Elizabeth Etter, Jason Atkins Etter; two great grandchildren, Alex Hill and Kate Hill.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Joseph Etter and a daughter, Beverly Jane Etter.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at Hadley Funeral Home Marietta Chapel, 500 5th St., with Reverend David R. Smith officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12 at the funeral home.
