Workmen began demolition of the old Strecker home on Bartlett Street, which has been in the Strecker family since 1883 and was "old and rundown" when purchased, according to Edwin Strecker. It is being torn down to make way for the construction of a retirement home for the elderly.

Although the principal producing months of the year started off with a $12,000 fire, operations at the Marietta Fruit Package & Lumber Company are proceeding as usual this summer in the supplying of containers for seasonal fruits and vegetables.

Preparations for putting new school laws in full effect in the county are going steadily forward under the direction of County Superintendent M.C. Smith. Smith is urging that all the rural schools begin their new year on the same date, believing that uniformity in this respect will be good for the school system.
