A deputy responded Thursday to the scene of an altercation in the parking lot of IGA in Newport. What initially was an argument between Sherry Van Pelt, 56, of 5715 Serene Drive, Beaumont, Texas, and her son's fiancee escalated to the point where both women were shoving each other. Neither of the involved parties desired to pursue charges against the other.
A deputy requested a summons Friday for Amanda M. Montano, 33, of 2317 Oak St., Parkersburg, for telecommunications harassment. Despite being asked previously to not contact the 32-year-old victim, Montano phoned the victim 19 times since Aug. 20. In one call, Montano threatened to assault the victim, causing her to fear enough for her safety that she left her home with her daughter to stay at a relative's home for an evening.
