Drugs no excuse for crimes against others

August 30, 2014
Marietta Times

I am writing regarding the letter about the person responsible for the break-ins and enterings in Belpre saying that 10 years was too harsh of a punishment. The person in question does have arrests in other states. I am tired of people using drugs as an excuse for permission to rob, steal and to violate other people. Doing drugs is a choice, not an excuse! My husband and I have been victims of robbery more than once and unless its happened to you, then you have no idea how violating it feels for someone to come in your home and take your personal things - things that have a sentimental value that no amount of money can ever give back. When this happened to me I didn't want to leave my house or even go to sleep at night. Speaking of it being an unfair punishment I would hope if the person or persons that violated my home and my mental being be sentenced as much as the law allows instead of getting a slap on the wrist because they are supposedly addicted to drugs. It is time criminals be held accountable for their crimes. They need to man up and quit using excuses!
