WVU-Parkersburg can keep logo, colors, designs

June 6, 2009 - AP
MONTGOMERY, W.Va. (AP) — A new licensing agreement lets West Virginia University at Parkersburg use the same trademarks, designs and official colors on its merchandise as the campus in Morgantown.

The WVU Board of Governors approved the pact Friday. It lets Parkersburg use the brand in marketing and advertising, as long as it complies with terms set by WVU's Office of Trademark Licensing.

A 2008 law made community and technical colleges independent institutions, removing their administrative connections to their former sponsors.

But the law allows WVU to continue the association with a formal agreement.

WVU will also provide Parkersburg with certain administrative support for what it calls a reasonable, customary fee.

Parkersburg's board will vote on the deal June 10.
