A new documentary film, "Looking for Superman" suggests that American education is severly flawed. Is this view justified?

As a former history teacher, I believe that the majority of today's public issues are rooted in the quality - or lack thereof - of American education. Never in my own memory have I noticed so many students (and adults) who are so uninformed about even the most basic facts of history, civics, geography ... Recent studies suggest that U.S. schools rank well below other nations in the disciplines of math and science ... "Waiting for Superman" (which needs to be shown locally) says that the "blame" or "responsibility" for this sad state of affairs rests upon several factors - i.e. the distractions of TV and computer games; teachers' unions that support "tenure" for some incompetent teachers; uncaring parents; "pressure groups" that demonize public education to promote private, sectarian schools; politicians who burden schools with "unfunded mandates" like "No Child Left Behind" ... Or is it "all of the above"

And they don't have to "opt out" , all they have to do is don't go to work at a union shop !we are Ohio .co m

Munster’s question, “You do understand what "voluntary" means don't you?”

Answer: Voluntary means workers should not be forced to pay a union as a condition of employment.

. . .

“In early 2012, Quinnipiac University reported with surprise that a majority of Ohioans polled supported right to work a mere three months after the $40 million SB 5 smear campaign run by union front group We Are Ohio.”

We are Ohio. co m And just who and how many does your republican super PAC's represent ?? We don't know because they, unlike unions, don't have to report those donatiions !If it sounds a little fishy you can bet it smells a whole lot fishy !And still regardless of all your efforts workers will have the choice whether to CHOOSE to work union or CHOOSE to work non union which does make it voluntary !Different but the same idiocy so we will remind the vast majority that thumped SB5 that this is just the republicans again trying to screw labor ! We are Ohio .co m

“Letting workers opt out of union membership without being forced to pay “fair share” fees typically amounting to 90 percent of member dues is one change – singular – that would not revoke or weaken any worker’s collective bargaining privileges.”

The only defense Munster can muster in his war against the Ohio Workplace Freedom Amendment is his repetitive offense of name-calling, insults, and wild claims.

"we are ohio".co m Deny , deflect, mis-lead and lie ! The republican mantra ! You see whenever wrongriki cant come up with a valid arguement this is what we all have to endure ! Doesnt change the facts though , whenever a person goes to work they make a CHOICE either to work at a union shop or they CHOOSE to work at a non-union shop ! Either way they CHOOSE ! And since these rabid republicans say its all about CHOICE then they must be and are LYING ! "we are ohio".co m

And they are voluntary , which means they don't have to do it !

You do understand what "voluntary" means don't you ? What an idiot ! These are voluntary memberships that offset the cost of printing newsletters that are sent to retirees ! Yeah , dues of 12 dollars a year ! What a putz ! These aren't dues , they are membership fees ! So I guess wrongriki again LIES !!!

Posted 12 days ago.

Munster

And yet the Know Nothing Expert still cant wrap its pea brain around the fact that as retiree's no former active union members pay dues ! So all its typical half-truths and lies don't mean anything ! Of course we would expect that sort of mis-leading crap from wrongriki ! And just why would anybody care about what a non-working leach on society has to say on unions ? It has no experience and the only info it gets is from right-wing garbage factories !

You do understand what "voluntary" means?

Voluntary = the Ohio Workplace Freedom Amendment

The Ohio Workplace Freedom Amendment = voluntary memberships

Munster’s LIE ~ “retiree's no former active union members pay dues”

The long-time retired “dues exempt” USW member LIES again ~ “retiree's no former active union members pay dues”

. . .

“What is the cost of a Retired Unified Membership?: Any OEA active member who retired after 1985 shall be a unified member of the OEA-R and NEA-R. Current Unified retired annual dues is $45.00 and Unified Life dues is $300.00.”

****ohea****/retired-membership-status

. . .

Just why would anybody care about what a non-working long-time retired dues exempt leach on today’s USW workers has to say about the workplace freedom amendment? No need to pay those OEA-R and NEA-R dues when you can become a NEA/OEA union boss and live off the workers’ compulsory union dues for FREE.
