Is this view justified? As a former history teacher, I believe that the majority of today's public issues are rooted in the quality - or lack thereof - of American education. Never in my own memory have I noticed so many students (and adults) who are so uninformed about even the most basic facts of history, civics, geography ... Recent studies suggest that U.S. schools rank well below other nations in the disciplines of math and science ... "Waiting for Superman" (which needs to be shown locally) says that the "blame" or "responsibility" for this sad state of affairs rests upon several factors - i.e. the distractions of TV and computer games; teachers' unions that support "tenure" for some incompetent teachers; uncaring parents; "pressure groups" that demonize public education to promote private, sectarian schools; politicians who burden schools with "unfunded mandates" like "No Child Left Behind" ... MunsterWell here you go but head , it isn't going to get anymore credible than the "Bureau of Labor Statistics" According to a January 2011 Bureau of Labor Statistics report, workers who belong to a union typically earn higher pay than non-union workers doing the same kind of job. Although it varies based on sector and occupation, the overall averages are striking. $917 = Median weekly earnings in 2010 of union members. $717 = Median weekly earnings in 2010 of non-union workers. That's a yearly difference in salary of $10,400 for union members vs. non-union members. Union members earn an average of $4.95 more per hour - which equates to a yearly difference of $10,300. R1KRA8“In short, if unions truly did not want to represent so-called “freeloaders,” they could well do so by insisting on members-only contracts in both the private and public sector. Perhaps such a policy would make more workers stick to their unions by paying dues and reaping the rewards of collective bargaining. Or, perhaps union membership will dwindle even further as non-members realize that they can do just fine on their own two feet.” “For decades, union bosses and their political puppets have spread half-truths and straight-up lies in a desperate attempt to shift public opinion towards saving union-shop laws – where workers are compelled to pay dues whether they like it or not.” . . . MunsterAnd yet the Know Nothing Expert still cant wrap its pea brain around the fact that as retiree's no former active union members pay dues ! So all its typical half-truths and lies don't mean anything ! Of course we would expect that sort of mis-leading crap from wrongriki ! And just why would anybody care about what a non-working leach on society has to say on unions ? It has no experience and the only info it gets is from right-wing garbage factories ! Posted 19 hours ago. MunsterTaft-Hartley clearly states, and a number of court cases have confirmed, that non-union members can be compelled to pay only that portion of union dues that is attributable to the cost of representing employees in collective bargaining and providing the service that are given to union members. Indeed, the law specifically states that non-members cannot be required to pay for the union’s political activities or for the costs incurred by the union resulting from organizing employees. We don't know because they, unlike unions, don't have to report those donatiions !If it sounds a little fishy you can bet it smells a whole lot fishy !
