What happened to the "Union Influence in Politics" topic?

Even though I initiated it as the debut topic in the Times forums, I'm happy to realize it has been deleted. It died an ugly death long ago, and should have been executed long before it was. I'm curious though... Why? I am unaware of the travesty that occurred that was sufficiently heinous to warrant it's deletion... As compared to the tripe on ALL the other threads that is evident on a daily basis.

Myth: Unions just want workers’ dues. Fact: Money that workers pay in dues goes back into running the organization—unions are not for-profit organizations. The improvements workers win in pay, benefits and fair treatment through their unions are far greater than the cost of dues. Dues levels are set by each local union through a democratic process.

Myth: Most union bosses are corrupt. Fact: It’s a tragic situation when a trusted leader betrays the membership in any kind of organization. However, for every high-profile story that is in the media about a corrupt union leader, there are thousands of regular, honest leaders who are never profiled.

Myth: Unions are quickly shrinking. Fact: Actually, the number of union members has stayed steady for the past 50 years, but the workforce itself has grown. Sixteen million working men and women in the United States are union members. We are ohio.co m

FACT: Union Leaders just want Workers’ dues. FACT: The Money the workers are forced to pay in dues goes into Union Leaders’ pockets and to feathering the Union Leaders’ nests. Laws like Ohio Revised Code 4117.09(C) enforce compulsory dues levels.

FACT: Most union bosses are corrupt. FACT: It is a tragic situation when a trusted leader betrays the membership in any kind of organization. However, for every high-profile story that is in the media about a corrupt union leader, there are thousands of corrupt, dishonest leaders who are never profiled.

FACT: Unions are quickly shrinking. FACT: Actually, the number of union members has stayed steady DECLINED for the past 50 years.

According to a January 2011 Bureau of Labor Statistics report, workers who belong to a union typically earn higher pay than non-union workers doing the same kind of job. Although it varies based on sector and occupation, the overall averages are striking.

$917 = Median weekly earnings in 2010 of union members.

$717 = Median weekly earnings in 2010 of non-union workers.

That's a yearly difference in salary of $10,400 for union members vs. non-union members.

Union members earn an average of $4.95 more per hour - which equates to a yearly difference of $10,300.

“Workers have also learned that there is no free lunch, which is why they have, over the years, increasingly voted against being represented by unions in secret ballot elections.”

“That is why government unions continue to thrive while private sector unions decline. Taxpayers provide their free lunch.”

Hmmmmm, seems to me that since workers already CHOOSE whether to work in a union shop or not , that their right to CHOICE is meet !Now since thats the main crux of wrongrikis workplace freedom bullshi^ that this makes its whole arguement moot ! Now what else do you want to be debunked about ??? Theres your valid rebuttal ! And dum-dum , if you had ever worked you would know that once retired ex-workers dont pay dues ! But you wont learn that collecting welfare and foodstamps !

“The real reason that Mr. Faber and other GOP leaders in the state are backing off of right-to-work is because they—and Republican Gov. John Kasich, who is up for re-election next year—are afraid that Democrats will use the issue to paint the GOP as anti-worker. And to be sure, union leaders in the state have already compared Republicans to Nazis simply for proposing right-to-work legislation.”

As you can see here, the idea of giving TODAY’S WORKERS the freedom to choose whether to participate in a labor organization as a condition of employment makes a long-time RETIRED ‘dues exempt’ United Steelworkers union member extremely irritated to the point he has to resort to repetitive name-calling, insults, and wild untrue claims about others.

“The euphemism that OEA is “partnering” with We Are Ohio is clearly meant to maintain the facade of We Are Ohio as an independent “citizen-driven” group. OEA is the largest donor to We Are Ohio, which has received more than 95 percent of its funding from OEA, AFSCME, AFL-CIO, and other labor unions.”

“Furthermore, nearly half of the “community-based” organization’s funding has come from unions outside Ohio.”
