Will Paul Ryan's "Personhood" agenda, or (worse yet) Todd Akin's view that "women can't become pregnant from 'legitimate rape'" become part of the Republican Party platform at the G.O.P. convention in Tampa?

Ryan was co-sponsor of the House "Personhood Amendment", an attempt to put into national law what extremist lawmakers have tried to do on the state level - the mandate that "life" begins with coception. Such a law would criminalize abortion, in-vitro fertilization, and most forms of birth-control. Meanwhile, Senatorial wannabe Todd Akin (R-Missouri) has stated that it is "rare" for women to become pregnant from (what he calls) "legitimate" rape - implying that women who DO become pregnant after being raped must have "co-operated" with the rapist! While some Republicans have denounced Akin's statement, the "personhood" idea is so ingrained in rightwing Republican policies that it is likely that this notion will find it's way onto the 2012 G.O.P. platform. This is more likely since Virginia Governor Bob McDonald (who proposed mandatory ultrasound procedures for women seeking abortions) is the head of the G.O.P. Platform Committ
