Is there a concerted effort on the part of some right-wing extremists to distort or revise American History to suit their current idelogical agenda?

The Texas school textbook controversy and the issuing of "pro-Confederate" textbooks to fourth graders in Virginia seems to be only the tip of a massive "revisionist" iceberg ... While Glenn Beck has made a career out of pumping out oddball distortions of early American history and revisions of the Jewish Holocaust, others are jumping in as well with bogus "histories" that promote only "conservative" idealogy ... From fabrications about the Founding Fathers, slavery, "states' rights", and our treatment of Native Americans to outright lies about FDR and the Great Depression, the manure spreaders are on a revisionist roll that started in the '60s heyday of the John Birch Society ... What can be done to correct the right-wind-machine's "corrections" so that our children and grand-children won't grow up believing a pack of propagandistic lies?
