The companies importing and building them, are buying parts pretty much at surplus military prices, from the Soviet bloc countries. Actual assembled AK's haven't been allowed to be imported for years. About the only assembled semi-auto rifles they've allowed to be imported from those sources for years are SKS rifles. They have a fixed 10 round internal magazine.

The gun show in Harrisburg Pa was boycotted because the people running the show said no AR's so the bowhunters were the first to pull out followed by numerous other groups that opposed the ban. Showing the American public that this fight was/is just starting and the antigun polls saying the NRA's own people supported the ban were WRONG.WRONG oh SO WRONG..
