Are "gun-rights" advocates who say they "need" combat-style weaponry to "protect the nation from dictatorship" dangerous anarchists who are endangering the REAL Second-Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans with their paranoid, anti-government rants?

None of the recent suggested actions by the President or the Biden task force concerning universal background checks or the regulation of military-style weapons and high-capacity magazines poses a serious threat to the Second Amemdment rights of law-abiding Americans ... Yet, NRA honcho Wayne LaPierre, and the usual gaggle of hotheads that support him, say that Americans need to be "ready if necessary" to use these weapons to fight against "dictatorship". What "dictatorship"? This isn't Syria or Nazi Germany. The only actions relating to guns that President Obama took during his first term was to allow guns to be taken on board AMTRAK trains and brought into national parks ... Do the paranoid and delusional beliefs of some (though not all) gun-advocates disqualify them from being mentally sound enough to purchase or own guns? The 2008 "Heller v District of Columbia" ruling says that the government DOES have a right to prohibit mentally-defective

Munster IS THE ONE that sounds "familiar". It's ALWAYS the same, unsubstantiated, broken-record drivel!

If I were a criminal defendant, and Munster was my only possible defense counselor, I'd show up for my hearing with a noose and say, "Let's get this over with."

sound familiar??? The Dunblane school massacre occurred at Dunblane Primary School in the Scottish town of Dunblane on 13 March 1996. The gunman, 43-year-old Thomas Hamilton (b. 10 May 1952), entered the school armed with four handguns, shooting and killing sixteen children and one adult before committing suicide. Along with the 1987 Hungerford massacre, 1989 Monkseaton shootings and the 2010 Cumbria shootings, it remains one of the deadliest criminal acts involving firearms in the history of the United Kingdom.

Public debate subsequent to these events centred on gun control laws, including public petitions calling for a ban on private ownership of handguns and an official enquiry, the Cullen Report. In response to this debate, the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1997 and the Firearms (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 1997 were enacted, which effectively made private ownership of handguns illegal in the United Kingdom.

The reality of the goals of the anti-gun crowd is they truly believe it's possible to have a society without gun owners. If not, you wouldn't hear them speak so fondly of countries where there is NO civilian gun ownership. They talk so lovingly of England, where even a person that owns a shotgun, has to store it at the gun club.

They compare Canada as a goal, where just in the past year a guy was jailed for firing warning shots into the ground to run off a group of vandals that were throwing burning bottles of gasoline on his home.

Or England where a man was jailed for using a 2"x 4" as a club to run off vandals who had just thrown bricks through his windows, showering his children with shards of broken glass.

Don't buy the "we're not disarming you" BS! That IS their goal!

Yes they HAVE restricted modern sporting rifles before, did you forget the 1994 AWB?

It's the "slipery slope" reality we're looking at. A new AWB has the chance of a snowball in*****unless it's added to a bill that has universal support. And I'd expect to see adding the amendment strongly opposed.

The reality of passing bills concieved through emotion rather than logic and reason is the issue. If an AWB were to succeed, the anti-gun crowd will build on that success. We've seen it before, and any person who claims to support the 2nd amendment had better be resisting it this time. If not, then whatever is used in the next episode of "crazy guy on a killing spree" will be named the new thing that needs banned.

MY RESPONSE to LTtE "Regarding God and AR-15s" (Parkersburg News & Sentinel 4-7-13).

Random21 - I'm glad to see you've already discovered and revealed the AR-15 'ERROR' in John Bryan's "Regarding God and AR-15s" LTTE (4-7-13).

For those that want to view the info for themselves, go to; h ttp://w ww.thegunzone.c om/11april86.html

Mr. Bryan is using an THE NAME AR-15, in 'error', like Barack Obama used THE FUNCTION "fully-automatic", in 'error', like Colorado Democratic Rep. Diana DeGette describing THE USE of a firearm's magazine being limited to one time, was in 'error'.

I can't speak for any of you, but I don't care for those that want to alter MY rights BEING WRONG with THEIR understanding of the issue but still fighting for their position FROM ramparts MADE OF 'ERROR'.

Kinda like the old goat in Marietta that wants to keep discussing the Barbary Pirates and the "Brown Bess".

And again, until you put together a searchable list of the mentally ill most likely to go off the deep end and commit an atrocity, universal registration is a feel good legislation at the most.

I was watching some of the Cable Gab Fests on Sunday morning. The pro-control people use the word assault style weapons when talking about semi and full automatic. I finally figured out that they either- one: did not know what they were talking about or- two: they were purposely misleading. We need to start to use words that more aptly describe the weapons. I think we make everyone use the words automatic or semi-automatic and make sure they know the difference. Assault “style” weapons, as far as I can tell, come in both flavors. You want to band fully automatic, I guess I could get on board with that since I think fully auto is restricted to special permits already. But banning semi-automatic could very well morph itself into banning the sale of hand guns since a six shooter is a semi-automatic weapon. CNN reported that both Bloomberg and BO both recently miss-spoke on this subject. Al Franken continues to be MIA on this subject. And again, until you put together a searchable li

Continued discussion with you is pointless. There are none so blind as those who refuse to see. It's AR style rifles, THIS time. Then, when some nutcase uses a shotgun, it will be shotguns that need banned.

I've got an idea, why don't we deal with what the ACTUAL problem is, unmedicated nutcases allowed to roam free is society.Court transcripts show the university was told better than a month before the Colorado shooter killed that he was a danger. Why wasn't something done then? Instead of waiting till he piled bodies in a movie theater? No, according to them, passing strict laws AFTER he has killed is the solution.

There was an old saying about that when I was a kid. Something like " It don't make much sense to close the barn door after the horse gets out."

The question of whether one can defend their life with a .410 shotgun, or an AR is a moot point. The fact remains that we still have a 2nd amendment in spite of the efforts of the anti-gun crowd. Politicians who wish to continue their cushy jobs will discount that fact at their peril. If they really want to be forced to seek different employment, they can support these BS proposals.

You guys can't even convince your own politicians to go along with this lunacy.

We as a country still have the right to choose whether we want to own a modern sporting rifle, I could care less if you like the idea or not. Matter of fact, the preaching by idiots like you more than likely have convinced MORE people to buy these rifles!!!

They are both gas operated and still that has NO BEARING on this issue !There is still no reason for a civilian to own a military assault rifle !!Your worry that there will be somebody unable to protect themselves with a 410 and buckshot is bogus at least !
