President Obama calls for the minimum wage to be set at $9 dollars an hour. What moron beside this president thinks you can raise a family on $9 an hour?

Maybe some employers could afford to pay their workers a living-wage (i.e. one that would match cost-of-living prices) if they had not blown most of their profits buying expensive toys or investing in risky real-estate deals or other scams ... Economics 101 says that "capitalism" is "the investment of capital, material, and labor to secure profit!" If there is no investment in labor or material (the "businessperson" having blown said $$$ on crummy investments or toys) there will be no profits. If there are no profits, wages stay low or jobs are eliminated altogether. If wages are low or there are no full-time jobs, people have no money to spend to support other businesses in the community. Those businesses lose their capital and go out of business. The result of all this is ... well, one can drive around Marietta and discover the result of such silliness ... But of course "it's all Obama's fault"!

caught some of the "pushback" against the President's $9.00-an-hour proposal. Tea-party Congresswoman, Marsha Blackburn (R-TX) and others said that the minimum-wage "builds character". Others say (borrowing lines not heard since the days of the Social Darwinists of the 19th century) that low-income workers are mostly "lazy" or "untrained" and do not deserve a living wage. Some (one of the preceding wingnuts) say that those making a minimum-wage should NOT become parents or try to raise a family (and one alternative to that would be ...?) ... Thank God, at least BeRight has some "consideration" for the working-poor!

OBAMA does not care if the rate is raised or not. He only wishes to frame himself as giving away things. If it fails, he will have a strawman, if it passes he will be seen as taking care of the little guy when in fact he is not.

ONCE AGAIN Munster displays his grasp of all things economic. Munster just where do you think that raise is coming from?? Do you think that the employer is just going to pay them the extra buck fifteen? what about those who have been there a while and earned more than minimum" do you think they should also receive a raise to maintain the delta with a new hire??? I agree but unfortunately there are those who werent given the same gifts as some and a minimum wage job will be all they will be able to handle !That should'nt mean they live their lives in poverty ! Look at 9.00$ an hr your definately not living high on the hog but it will make things like medication and other thing more available !

The president should be fair to all Americans and say what was just send in an early post: "If you would like to raise a family, you should develop a skill set that can earn you more than minimum wage".

let me remind you that the president took time in his SOTU address to talk about min wage going to $9. He also believes that $9 will get you out of poverty. That is what he said, not me. I think he is full of @@@@!

Perhaps you should not be attempting to raise a family on minimum wage. If you would like to raise a family, you should develop a skill set that can earn you more than minimum wage. Then you can think about raising a family.

This is what he said when he announced the $9 an hour: “no one who works full-time should have to live in poverty”. I don’t know for sure but he seems to think $9 per hour is a big deal. It is the president saying this, not me.

Nobody ever EXPECTED anyone to raise a family on minimum wage! That wage was set as a standard wage for entry jobs in the workforce, for workers with NO experience. For part-time workers, like high school kids, or for those just entering the workforce.

That's why they called it MINIMUM WAGE!

Cause $9.00 will put them in the middle class & pay for everything themselves.... right?

They won't qualify for HUD, food assistance, the medical card, WIC or any other governmental assistance.... right?

You can raise a family on $360 a week? Why not make the min wage the same as a pipefitter, school teacher, Fireman, Police man etc. $9. What a joke. This man talks in billions and billions but want a person to survive on $9? He never had a real job so he does not know the struggle of the middle class.
