When should a person be punished for stating an opinion?

As many people might know, 'Duck Dynasty' star Phil Robertson gave an interview to GQ Magazine and gave his colorful opinion on different social topics. The response from various groups made A&E pull him from the show. So the discussion is, if someone is asked for their opinion and gives it willingly, should they be punished afterward?

asknot: "At least his beliefs are faith based solely, and not based on BS "facts"and hate propaganda."

Though I no longer participate in this forum, I can not prevent myself from keeping track of the activity here. Against my better judgment, your last post prompts me to state:

Nonsense.

His comments were a little coarse, perhaps not geared towards younger readers (as if it matters now that GQ decided to bomb them onto the internet), but somehow those wishing to tear him down over his words are the same folks who crucified Paula Deen. And as I recall, any proposed discrimination claims against her were thrown out by the court. But, by then, the left had achieved their goal, they got her booted from the Food Network.

I guess judging from the reaction of the so called "progressives" in our country, if you have an accent, you're not a good as they are.

I watched the Duck Dynasty marathon yesterday and from what I saw; Phil did not mention gays or lesbians one time, not once.

All you people picking on old Phil: When is the last time you picked up an issue of GQ?

His interview has not even been published yes but somehow it got "leaked". LOL

Let's try to stay on topic, ya' all! This outrage being thrown out by Robertson "haters" trumps what he said, even trumps what they're trying to conflate his comments to mean. But somehow Robertson supporters have resisted the urge to call for their dismissal from their jobs.

But, I expected no less! Folks who follow the gospel that our dear Freddie does tend to make it a sport to dismiss country folks as somehow inferior to them. Given the choice, I'd stand with the country folks, at least they're genuine. Those on the left have worked to demean the Robertson's and every family like them on television since the day their first episode aired. We've even seen the left claim that simply having facial hair, and treating their spouses with the respect we only pray our daughters will be treated by their husbands as somehow odd. Even going to to claim these guys feel looking the way they do means they're KKK members.

So your going to go on denying the empirical evidence that "Gay" people can be both, at once, very talented artists, poets, performers (Michael Jackson) comes to mind there) and, simultaneously, be some of the most closed-minded, elitist and, yes, dangerous beings on this planet?

You've NOT dispelled ANY of the information I've provided, you'd just like to have us think that is so.

I'd say WE are done here. Others, that read up on our positions, will decide for themselves and I don't think that the very verbal 2% of the American public, that make up the Gay community, will ultimately prevail with their ultimate goals and ambitions.

asknot - I don't have "a side". I just deplore Homosexuality because God considers it an abomination (and I'm not a Butt-monkey). In the lesser (animal) species, Homosexuality has been shown to be a reaction to pressures and stresses inflicted upon the populations. They don't know any better. Reasoning humans should.

I will also give you fair warning. If Obama continues to upset the American populace, with your vaunted Liberal causes, Conservative causes/platforms could 'catch on' to a degree far beyond those I would appreciate. Then, where would you be?

Revelations 3: 15-16 15 “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.

You defend your flawed position by citing what someone's reaction would be if we were discussing "the mentally handicapped, biracial couples, catholics, Jewish people, black people, etc etc.", instead of Homosexuals ??? hmmmmm!

It seems that very tact is often played by those deniers of the Holocaust...too. "It never happened", Right?

WHEW! I must have pushed the right (or is that "left") button that time.

Well, here's some more for you, asknot.

"The top six U.S. male serial killers were all gay:

• Donald Harvey claimed 37 victims in Kentucky;

• John Wayne Gacy raped and killed 33 boys in Chicago, burying them under his house and in his yard;

• Patrick Kearney accounted for 32, cutting his victims into small pieces after sex and leaving them in trash bags along the Los Angeles freeways;

• Bruce Davis molested and killed 27 young men and boys in Illinois;

• A gay sex-murder-torture ring (Corll-Henley-Brooks) sent 27 Texas men and boys to their grave; and

• Juan Corona was convicted of murdering 25 migrant workers (he “made love” with their corpses)." (continued)

asknot, it is as hard finding news reported without a slant. sensationalism attracts ones attention and the lure of the perverse keeps it.

someone must think his opinion is still relevant and represents a pillar of unrivaled truth.. he is the definition of an opportunist. thunder-stealing by association must be added to his resume as well.

asknot - I didn't even go to capture Freud's opinion on the matter, until your comment back to me. I merely goggled "Homosexuality and Immaturity" and there's Freud's opinion supporting mine.

Most Homosexuals, I have know, besides being some of the most artistic folks you're likely to meet, could be the most mean-spirited, more so even then the others stratums of the Liberal rainbow.

Check out "The Pink Swastika" and study that essay.

Jesse "action" Jackson has now weighed in on "Robertson-Gate" (which is also known as free-speech, free-thought and religious-freedom gate). just when a Charlie Sheen admonishment just won't do! what a pair...fanning the flames of false indignation. beware the false prophet.

NO! Personal observations and connecting-the-dots.

Thirty years ago, while I was hospitalized, I heard an Orderly (that was obviously a little light in the loafers) explain to my roommate how s-ex with children didn't hurt them, but "taught them".

Over the past two/three months, I've noticed in our local paper how this state and that state has legalized same-s-ex marriages. Recently, it's been a torrent.

(IMO) The hammer's fixing to fall! Probably by nuclear fire originating from Iran. You don't really think the guy that lives in the WH, who despises America, will REALLY do ANYTHING to stand in the way of it, do you? After all, they recently built a new bunker under 'his' residence to protect him.

YEP! And, since (IMO) the average homosexual's psychological problem is he/she has never matured mentally to the point of maintaining successful hetero relationships (thusly not desiring them), after their nationwide accepted "coming out" prevails, the next station stop on our road to He!!,will be the promotion of their "accepted" practices will be with children.

Beright no one is shoving homosexuality in your face. People want to be able to express themselves openly and without repercussion.

For that to happen people have to have the room to express themselves. Those things you mentioned is simply people putting the word out and making room for themselves.

You dont have to accept that. But in order to honor our collective love and respect for freedom if we disagree with it we need to parse our words and make sure we don't actively try to offend each other.

After all what does that accomplish?

It does a good job of dividing people though.

atlas2025: Gay pride day, national coming out day, and other such days flies in the face of your comment “no one is making anyone accept the lifestyle choices of homosexuals. Because I know someone is going to bring that up. Live and let live. Simple as that. “ It seems that these “gala” events are trying to make us accept the Gay lifestyle. If someone is gay so be it.

Just quit shoving it in my face.

It's not absolution for pay, as you suggest. A divorced Catholic can fully practice their faith, but if they decide to remarry, they have to have their original marriage annulled. it doesn't change the legitimacy of children born of that marriage. And, yes, there is a minimal fee for processing the annulment. If I remember right, mine cost me maybe $20.00, and that would hardly substitute for the salaries of church employees time devoted to process it.
