When should a person be punished for stating an opinion?

As many people might know, 'Duck Dynasty' star Phil Robertson gave an interview to GQ Magazine and gave his colorful opinion on different social topics. The response from various groups made A&E pull him from the show. So the discussion is, if someone is asked for their opinion and gives it willingly, should they be punished afterward?

Just curious, was she mocking them for being survivors or for being old?

While appearing on NBC's “New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly,” actress and comedienne Natasha Leggero angered a number of people when she mocked survivors of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor

I doubt most serious proponents are that bent out of shape over Phil.

Considering that 19 states recognize same-s e x marriage and I would guess that by decades end, nearly all states will recognize it...GLAAD will win the war while Phil's supporters merely won a minor battle.

They're not starting their own line of guns, Mossberg is introducing a Duck Commander line of guns. Sure, they're likely getting royalties for the use of their brand. But, this deal was said and done months ago, likely longer than that.

somebody mentioned Phil stating that they will pluck your ducks or something to that effect. well i got to thinking...well i did pluck a young lady from your area as mine. remember the duck does not pluck itself. we like to pluck every chance we get. we are selfish and don't share a pluck or give a pluck. maybe Phil should tell everyone to just pluck-off. hope i did not just pluck myself. enjoy your day....be charitable...stop someone and give a pluck!

atlas2025....interesting information. do you recall if your father had to get her parents permission for the marriage? also, in researching laws regarding age and consent, i found listed that a 13 year-old can have consential sex as long as her partner is below the age of 18. otherwise the age of consent is 16 years-old as it is in most states. in the 1880's in delaware a 7 year old was able to give consent. now that would blow a skirt up in this day and time! pun intended.

BeRight, with the recent installation of anchor ejection seats at MSNBC, i was surprised it took her that long to issue an apology...but with a PHD on her wall, you wuld think she would have killed the segment before it made it on air. never let a young child get in the way of a political jab! anyway she corrected herself to quiet the sh! t strom that was brewing before she lost her position as a liberal mouthpiece. people will do (almost) anything for money.

MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry apologized Tuesday for a segment on her show where she and panelists joked about the adopted black grandchild of former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, featured in the family's Christmas photo. As a suggested caption for the photo, panelist Pia Glenn sang, "One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just isn't the same."

Oh heck, it just an opinion.

I do recall 'MissKay' expressing that 'Phil' wasn't very "nice" in their earlier married years, but she didn't share any examples of his alleged negative behavior(s).For whatever reasons, she chose to maintain the relationship, duck plucking and all.

My father married my mother when she was 15. He was in his 30's. My friends mother was married at 15 also. Both of them were married in the 70's. So its not really anything new Phil is talking about. Its just that in this day and age that kind of thing is looked down on.

Tiredofit, i imagine marriage at such a young age could have been attributed to the shortened life expectancy of americans during that time period. in addition, the preparation for self-sufficiency and management of a household took precedent over the focus of todays learning priorities. quite frankly i think as we have found, having children at a younger age has its benefits as evidenced by studies of the relationship between age and related childbirth complications. you are correct i would have and was pleasantly not presented with that scenario from my daugters....as of yet but they are well beyond that age. :-)

Melissa Harris-Perry’s MSNBC Panel Mocks Mitt Romney’s Black Grandson:

She tweets an sppology.

Using a baby to make a political punchline is a tough sale, with a high bar for comedy and commentary.

"It’s funny because Romney is white and his grandson isn’t, which is obviously hilarious. Because as everyone knows, the races should not mix."

asknot, do you believe you could survive a complete "reporting" of every statement you've made in your life? Though he and Kay married at a young age, that statement was made in jest. Context people, context!
