Arizona's SB1062 Legal or Illegal?

The state legislature of AZ passed this and it awaits for Gov. Brewer to either sign it into law or Veto it. Basically put, it allows owners of businesses to refuse to serve people if it conflicts with their religious beliefs. So, is it a good bill? Bad? Legal or illegal?

That is good to know asknot , when I'm back ill check it out. Sometimes you get in a rut and you need to do things a little differently. I think if people aren't sure where to go , they just don't attend any church anymore. True it's everyone choice but judging by some of the comments from somcalled Christians. They must go just to show up and be seen, because it does nt look like they are paying much attention to what they hear in church. It does not seem to carry over into their daily lives.

Thanks Caspiansynn and Fred. I'm not surprised it fell apart due to what happened in Arizona.

This is really different probably than your church of Christ, or my own Presbyterian upbringing, but if you are looking for something, maybe there is a church in the MOV, along this line. I would never tell anyone what church to go to, but if your are looking , I see a lot of young families changing the way they worship to a little different way than the churches that are nite traditional, I know it might not be what you care for in a church, and it is different but you might try this type of worship , this really is meant for anyone who thinks they might need a change. I go every tine I'm there. Their Sunday school is a little different format too, but whatever works for people.

Greek ill watch the video on you tube, thanks. I know to each person his own beliefs but in that case I really could not be quiet. I am not sure if in your area you have any of the newer non demo I national churches In your area but two of my family( one lapsed catholic and one christmas and easter presbyterian ) and their kids go to one in Florida and it is great I have been there with them, and it starts in large place similar to a college auditorium and it has a large bunch of guitars and drums and good singers that sing Christian rock, then after about 20 minutes of that , it gets a little more traditional but different. I thought at first I was in a rock concert disguised as a church but after a while I got used to it.they had one point where you could text questions in, very high tech them there was a sermon , well kinda one. After leaving you do get the good feelings and if I lived where they do I'd probably be a member plus they also have small groups during the week .

According to a letter to the editor today, Ohio has a similar bill in the works. Anyone know much about it?

The Greek , good for you , and you rock! I know sometimes I have not agreed with your opinions , in fact a lot of times I have not. But this time I think you have set whatever political views you may have aside , and just said exactly how you felt . It is the simplest thing, and we should love all. I do have a hard time a really with the enemy part, but I will try and be better about seeing the other point of view. In this case, it was impossible to justify this law and I'm glad Jan Brewer vetoed it. I do think Oneill is right, now all the proponents of that terrible bill will try another state to try to put it into law. I loved the sensitivity training you thought about for your workers in your imaginary Arizona restaurant.

I guess the govBrewer has some sense after all. LTS You say your church is Christ so,if I have a problem I need to direct at him? I have no problem with Christ whatsoever, it a problem with the entire state government of Arizona. But since the governor has vetoed the bill or is planning on it,I am quite glad. When discrimination is blatant , I really don't see that it may be okay because someone says according to their religion, it's understandable. It is not.If you see something obviously and blatantly wrong , it does not matter why.I don't have to argue semantics with you all day long because you believe otherwise. I think Greek but it may have been asknot,( you guys are thinking too closely today) said he asked himself at one point what would Jesus do? Ask not said he felt Jesus were in the restaurant business he would not refuse anyone. That is the Jesus I know .

asknot...sorry to say that is going to be a HUGE problem you are going to have to deal with. exofdevola stated "if that is offensive to your church so sorry". i do not attend a brick and mortar church. i spend time in worship and commune with Christ who is my church through what i believe is his word. since Christ is my "church", i suggested he take up any problem he has with my "church" with him. see the problem that i find with many mainstream christians is that they hang their salvation on the brick and mortar rather than being a part of the body of christ. christ intended to have a personal relationship with each and every person. i have built what i believe to be a personal relationship with him. i have my faith and confidence in him. you have your beliefs and i have never remotely questioned the validity of your beliefs. those are your beliefs and i respect your right to believe as you wish. it would be nice to have the consideration reciprocated. i

fred...there is plenty of judging going on here.....at this time namely yourself. i am fully aware of the spearation clause. it is quite apparent that you did not read or possibly understand when i said i do not agree with the proposed law. in addition, i also stated that i knew the purpose of the separation clause and agree with it as well. so what is your major malfunction???...especially when i agree with you.

exofDevola, thank you for the words of wisdom. however, my church is Christ. any anonmosity you have toward my church is referred to him, so feel free to have a sit down with him anytime you wish and tell him why you disagree. he will listen. it appears to me throughout this conversation, you and others freely tell others what they shall accept and condone and yet you voice indignation that we should express our belief (and not tell you how to believe) based on our religion. maybe you failed to notice i never said you were wrong in your personal belief.

exofDevola

LTS you certainly can follow whatever your church believes not condoning and following all the list of the do nots :that's why we have different churches . However when start telling others they have to believe what you do and condone or not whatever in the public sector / well don't pretend that is kosher it isn't - if that is offensive to your church so sorry /
