Kdsemon, Great response. For the long term yuo hit it right on the head. We have to open up our own oil fields. For the short term any money not going to the government is a plus.

It is heartening to know that some people in this area actually understand the problems, and solutions.

18.4 cents, that is the federal tax on each gallon sold. Is that going to make a big difference when gas is 3.65 a gallon? If they would remove the state tax as well, then that might help. The state tax for Ohio is 28 cents per gallon. Removing the state and fed tax still would only bring the price down by 46.4 cents. At prices today we would still be paying 3.195 cents a gallon. Okay, now look at how bad the roads are in this area. How are the roads paid for? By the fed. and state taxes we pay on gas. Are our roads going to get fixed? How? The problem is the "DOLLAR". Oil is traded in dollars, the dollars value has fallen, the cost of oil is climbing because the dollar is falling. Open up the oil fields in Alaska, build refineries in the country. This area is full of oil wells that are capped. We need to look at more and better ways to lower cost, removing the tax will only help in the very short term...

Hats off to John McCain for wanting to do what he can for the common folk. Obama is against it and Clinton wants to pay for it with higher taxes on the oil companies. Who will pay that tax? You and I at the pump as the companies pass it down as a cost of doing business. When will these people understand economics???

Well said peppie. I would add that any money back to the tax payer will help the economy. The government can;t fix it. Only the people spending money can.

They should give the average citizen a gas tax break, after all, they are riding around in government vehicles that our taxes are paying for. The government would maybe see the tax refunds being put back into circulation if people could plan on vacations like they used to.
