It's harder on the older children in my family. My oldest two are still sad. My youngest told the other two "Get over it". We've been lucky enough to be assigned to B-V and all 3 of my kids will be attending with their very best friends, so I am thankful for that. They are still losing some friends to Little Hocking and I think the board could have trimmed some more as far as the assistant super, etc. goes, but I will be attending the future board meetings to ensure they cut themselves just like they have cut the Bartlett and Cutler children. I won't go away.

I heard on the radio today that last year the Ohio Lottery added $690,000,000 to schools in Ohio last year. Yes that is 690 million...so where did it go? Where is it? How much did the Warren Local School District receive? I'm telling you folks, our state govt is not working with integrity. With that kind of money being added on top of regular funding, how in the world can our school district be strapped for money, and why would we need to close schools? I feel bad it had to happen, but it always starts at the top. Let's ask Gov Strickland. He promised so much with education but we have not seen any promises fulfilled...YET!

I know they said there would be cuts in the office but I will believe it when I see it. We have been lied to before so I am a little skeptic

I understand as an adult why our schools were closed but as children they do not...if we are having hard times paying our own bills I know the district has the same and money does not grow on trees for them either...I just hope our children are not the only scarifice and the upper hands in the district office take some cuts also..

I thought the money the state makes from the lottery goes to the schools. Does it?

In comparison, it costs as much to keep a small school as it does a larger school. As for the social interaction of the children, it is the parents jobs to talk to the children from the closing schools to the children in the schools that the children will be going to. Explain that it will be hard on everyone, but life is full of changes and they need to learn how to cope with change. The parents are the ones that will make the school changes work or not.

It is so sad, but as you can see by the other stories in today's Times, it is a trend. Belpre has no more band, Marietta cut $700,000 worth of expenses...the state legislature is really to blame because they don't have the school funding issue resolved. I have been in schools in the Columbus area that have planetariums, swimming pools, and Bose speakers on the PA system. All that while our area can't even keep the doors to the school working and the roof repaired!

As a resident of the Barlett Area, the school closings are a tragic event in our community. The change that frightens me most as a parent is how will our children be accepted in the other schools. We have always been considered the poor outcasts of the area, despite the truth of the hard working parents in the area.
