All-East district hoops team announced
The only senior on Fort Frye’s roster, Morgan Borich played a major role in the Cadets’ run to the district finals this season.
Borich, who averaged 13.3 points per game for the Dan Liedtke-coached Cadets, was one of four Fort Frye girls who earned Division IV All-East District honors over the weekend.
Borich, who scored a team-high 14 points in Fort Frye’s 46-44 loss to Shadyside in the district championship game, earn first team honors. Sophomore Karlee Ross, who averaged nine points per game, was named to third team, while Hannah Archer and Olivia Schneider were special mention and honorable mention, respectively.
Fort Frye finished the season 21-5.
The Fort Frye boys also saw four of their players get recognition in Division III. Nic Hart, a sophomore who averages 12.9 points per game, earned second team honors.. Hart helped the Cadets rally for a sectional final win over Coshocton. Next up, Fort Frye meets Garaway at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the district semifinals. Also honored for Fort Frye were Brady Schilling and Luke Nelson on honorable mention and Kelton Fogle on special mention.
In Division IV, Frontier junior Logan Brookover was named first team all-district. Brookover averaged 19.2 points and 12 rebounds this season for the Cougars. His teammate Kyle Daugherty was a special mention pick.
On the girls side, Frontier’s Haley Bills and Logan Haught earned honorable mention status.
The Morgan boys, who recently bested Beaver for a sectional title, saw sophomore Carver Myers earn third team all-district honors in Division II after scoring 15.2 points per game this season. Fellow Raiders Tyler Janes (special mention) and Josh Wells (honorable mention) also received recognition. Morgan takes on New Philadelphia Thursday in a district semi.
The Morgan girls are headed to the regional tournament after winning their first district championship in program history. Kaylie Apperson, the school’s all-time leader in 3-pointers made, earned first team all-district status in Division III. A senior, Apperson averages 15 points per contest.
Classmate Kara Hopkins was selected to the second team after scoring 13.4 points a night while Rilee Coon was honorable mention.
Shenandoah’s Boone Jones (9.1 points per game) and Caldwell’s Clark Jennings (19.2) both were named first team all-district in Division IV.
Zeps Christian Duniver (15.2) and Nickolai Wickham (13.7) each got second team while Caldwell’s Jett Lori (13.0) and Monroe Central’s Zac Jones (13.2) both received third team honors.
Caldwell’s Logan Heller was a special mention pick while Seminoles Luke Burkhart and Malachi Rose-Burton were honorable mention.
In girls basketball, Shenandoah’s Regan Flood (11.0) and Caldwell’s Cayton Secrest (14.0) were on the second team. Caldwell’s Cloe Siddle (15.0) was a third teamer.
Special mention picks were Shenandoah’s Brooklyn May and Dani Dimmerling while honorable mentions were Shenandoah’s Mackenzie Lynch and Monroe Central’s Kalista Friday.
