Roundup: Tigers bounce back, cruise past Magnolia 54-8

NEW MARTINSVILLE, W.Va. — Marietta High got off to a hot start and never looked back en route to defeating Magnolia 54-8 Friday night.

Corbin Alkire got things started with a 25-yard touchdown run at the 9:01 mark in the first quarter. Tony Munos returned a blocked punt four yards for a TD before Kory Science ran in a 65-yard TD to make it 20-0.

Science added another rushing score from 53 yards out to extend the Tigers’ lead to 26-0 after the first quarter.

Chase Taylor scored on a 50-yard run to open the second quarter. Munos added a 55-yard TD run before Taylor found paydirt again from 64 yards out.

After a scoreless third quarter, Marietta’s Chad lamp scored a 5-yard rushing touchdown with 3:31 left in the game.

Magnolia (0-6) finally got on the board with 1:44 to go, when Caden Cisar scored from two yards.

The Tigers, now 4-3, play host to New Philadelphia next Friday.

Parkersburg Catholic 45, Calhoun County 16

MT. ZION — Parkersburg Catholic raced out to a 19-point halftime lead and never looked back in a 45-16 road victory over Calhoun County Friday night.

Jeb Boice had a hand in all but one of the Crusaders’ scores in an impressive performance from the senior. He not only completed 5 of 9 passes for 131 yards, but also piled up 197 yards on the ground on just 23 attempts and caught a touchdown pass.

His 2-yard run with three minutes left in the first quarter gave the Crusaders all they needed on the evening.

From there, Boice either connected with Xavier Collie, Jalen Brunny or Ethan Lang for the other scores or hauled in a 21-yard pass from Collie for another touchdown.

Nick Stricker’s 24-yard scoring scamper in the final quarter ended the scoring for Catholic.

Travis and Levi Richards found the end zone for the hosting Red Devils. Calhoun had to score when they had the chance as Catholic successfully executed three onside kicks and completely dominated time of possession.

Ravenswood 42, Southern 35

RACINE– Down 35-34 late into the fourth quarter with Southern having possesion of the ball, Ravenswood’s Case Fletcher and Sam Sturm caused Southern quarterback Gage Shuler to cough the ball up for Xaiver “X-Man” Rodriguez to pounce on it, giving Ravenswood another chance to take the lead.

Quarterback Jaycob Creel gave the Red Devils the lead for good on a 3-yard run with 5:35 left, as the Ravenswood ruined Southern’s homecoming with a score of 42-35 Friday night.

Senior running backs Chase Hood and Jacob Anthony were the main ball carriers for the Red Devils’ offense, as both scored two touchdowns apiece. Hood was the team’s leading rusher with 180 yards and Anthony with 170. Creel finshied wih 49 yards on seven carries and also had two rushing touchdowns

Southern running back Trey McNickle reached the end zone four times and quarterback Gage Shuler found Will Wickline for a 6-yard touchdown pass.
