Hoops roundup: Morgan defeats Generals
McCONNELSVILLE – Senior Tianna Allen scored a career high 18 points in her final home game as Morgan scored a 63-56 over Sheridan in a Muskingum Valley League make-up game.
The Lady Raiders overcame a slow start as they trailed 18-9 after one period. The Lady Raiders used a 14-4 burst to start the second quarter. Senior McKayla Kangas scored eight points including two three points in the cirtical run that gave Morgan the lead for good at 23-22 with 2:42 left in the first half. The Lady Raiders lead would fluctuate between one and eight the rest of the way.
Allen led Morgan with her 18 point night including ten in the final quarter. She also had six rebounds and three steals. Vada Clemens scored 17 points to go with five assists. Darian Apperson added 11 points and ten rebounds in her final game.
Morgan set the school record with their ninth victory in 11 home games. Their only two home losses were to MVL Champions Maysville and East Central Ohio League Scarlet Division leader Rosecrans.
Monroe Central 51, Shenandoah 45
WOODSFIELD – In an OVAC consolation game, Monroe Central came out on top against Shenandoah 51-45 Thursday in Woodsfield.
The Lady Seminoles found themselves down 20-11 at halftime and 33-26 going into the final period.
In the fourth quarter, Monroe Central used a 25-12 run to take the lead and claim the victory.
Chelsie Roberts led all scorers with 20 points. Teammate Anne LaFollatte also hit double-digits with 11.
For the Lady Zeps, Blake Hall led the way with 18 markers.
Shenandoah won the battle on the boards 30-17, with Hall grabbing eight and Ashley Wukelich pulling in seven, but the ‘Noles took better care of the ball, committing 14 turnovers to 23 for Shenandoah.
Troy Baker’s Lady Seminoles are now 13-8 on the year and are back in action Saturday against Magnolia.
Parkersburg South 65, Frontier 47
NEW MATAMORAS -Parkersburg South didn’t have any trouble finiding the range from beyond the 3-point arc and tossed in nine treys while winning at Frontier 65-47 on Thursday.
South’s Keya Bartlett led the barrage with five 3-pointers as part of her game-high 26-point effort.
Teammate Taryn McCutcheon accounted for three treys and added 20 points as the Patriots improved to 12-6.
A total of three Frontier players scored in double figures, inlcuding Kelsea Daugherty with a team-high 12 points.
Magnolia 71, Beallsville 63
BEALLSVILLE – Grace Berisford poured in a game-high 31 points and Mallory Chapman posted a double-double of 21 points and 12 boards to help visiting Magnolia (10-8) earn a 71-63 OVAC consolation game victory here Thursday against Beallsville.
BHS (5-16) got 25 points from Katey Kinney, 21 by Madison Stephen and the other 17 from Mikaela Headley.
Ritchie County 66, St. Marys 59
ST. MARYS, W.Va. – Ritchie County flexed its muscle in the fourth quarter and and pulled away from St. Marys for a 66-59 road win on Thursday.
The Rebels (11-5, 7-3 LKC North) outscored the Blue Devils 29-9 in the final eight minutes as Justin Sage scored all 11 of his points. Teammate D.J. Burgess finished with a game-high 21 points, while Andrew Davis tossed in 19 points.
St. Marys slipped to 15-3 and 8-3 in the LKC North despite a 17-point effort from Andrew Cosper and another 16 points from Jessy Moore.
