PREP WRESTLING: Kameron Rayner All-Ohio

COLUMBUS – Kameron Rayner is an All-Ohio wrestler.

The Caldwell junior placed seventh in the Division III, 138-pound weight class at the OHSAA State Wrestling Tournament which wrapped up Saturday night at The Jerome Schottenstein Center on the campus of The Ohio State University.

Only the top 8 in each weight category at state get to stand on the podium.

Rayner posted a 3-2 record at the state event to cap a 45-8 season. The Redskin grappler claimed his medal after he decisioned Anthony Decarlo of Springfield Catholic Central in the seventh-eighth place final, 2-1.

Earlier, Rayner opened Thursday with a 6-3 win against Alex Guerra of Sandusky St. Marys and then on Friday, he suffered a pin in 2:48 at the hands of J.J. Diven of Atwater Waterloo. After beating Graham Montague of Independence, 6-4, in a second round consolation bout, he lost to Brandon McCormick of Lima Central Catholic in the consolation quarterfinals, 5-4.

Also wrestling at state but not placing were Warren’s Levi Congleton (106 pounds), Belpre’s Gavin Stalnaker (106), Waterford’s Austin Lang (126), Monroe Central’s Rodney Richter (113), and Caldwell’s Kale Rayner (170) and Jared Leasure (182).
