Prep basketball: Dawson has good all-star outing

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – Erica Dawson had a nice all-around game but unfortunately her team Ohio didn’t as it dropped a 113-78 decision to Kentucky in the 22nd annual Russell Athletic Ohio-Kentucky Girls’ All-Star Basketball Game at Thomas More College Saturday.

Dawson, a 5-foot-9 senior at Marietta High, scored 11 points, grabbed six rebounds, had four steals, and blocked one shot. Only Ohio teammate Kayla McDowell had more points (12) than her.

Dawson is an Xavier University recruit. Lady Tigers’ head coach Scott Cozzens and assistant Terry Wallis both were in attendance at the all-star game.

Kentucky equaled the all-time scoring standard in the series, tying the 113 scored by the 2003 Kentucky All-Stars.

Taylor Porter, a Morehead State recruit, paced the winners with a game-high 17 points.

Kiera Muhammad, who chipped in with 16 markers, was honored as Kentucky’s Most Valuable Player.

Dawson is scheduled to compete in another all-star contest, the annual Ohio North-South senior Division 1-2 classic, at the Capital Center on the Campus of Capital University in Columbus at noon Sunday.

One of Dawson’s South teammates will be Morgan’s 6-foot Darian Apperson.
