Prep baseball roundup: Tigers rally to defeat Bulldogs, 6-3

THE PLAINS – Adam McKnight improved his mound mark to 3-0 as Marietta rallied to defeat host Athens High, 6-3, in non-conference baseball action Wednesday.

In seven innings of work, the junior right-hander fanned one, walked one, and scattered seven hits.

Helping his own cause, McKnight was 3 for 4 at the plate and scored a run.

MHS finished with 11 hits in the contest.

Ben Barnas, Nick Lewis, and Devin Leister each added two hits for the Tigers, who improved their record to 11-10.

MHS also beat the Bulldogs (13-6) at Legion Field earlier this this season.

With the win, Tiger co-skipper Larry Burke now has 402 career victories, which ties him with Jim Jordan.

Athens’ Skyler Swarzel suffered the mound setback. Offensively, the Dogs were led by Alex Staron, who was 2 for 3, and Tyler McDade, who drove in two runs.

Down 3-1, Marietta plated five runs in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead. Joe Roberts had a run-scoring double for the Tigers.

Warren 13, Chillicothe 2, 6 innings (mercy)

CHILLICOTHE?- Lance Schafer, Zach McKenna and David Ryan each had three hits as Warren mercied host Chillicothe in SEOAL action Wednesday.

Blake Kidder added two knocks for the Warriors, who improved their record to 9-8. Garrett Kennedy was the winning pitcher.

Frontier 9, St. John 5

C.J. Cunningham was the winning pitcher in relief, and helped his own cause by going 2 for 2 with a double and RBI as Frontier downed host St. John 9-5 Wednesday.

Mitch Minder and Josh Kirkbride each had a triple and drove in two runs for the Cougars, who improved their record 10-15. Austin Amos and Levi Cochran added two hits apiece.

Waterford 6, Miller 5

WATERFORD – Devyn Farley got the mound win and Devon Patterson picked up a save as host Waterford nipped Miller in Tri-Valley Conference baseball action Wednesday. Brian Moore and Cody Paxton each had a double for the Wildcats (6-13). Helping his own, Patterson had two hits and scored two runs.
