Hoffman All-Ohio in track

COLUMBUS – Belpre’s Dakota Hoffman is one of the best long jumpers in the state of Ohio.

Friday, Hoffman recorded a leap of 21-feet-06.75 inches to place fourth in the Division III state track meet at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University.

Hoffman is one of six Golden Eagles to make it to state, as the girls 4 by 200 relay team of Sarah Walker, Sierra Barker, Allison Gherke and Taryn Carr finished 16th Friday with a time of 1 minute, 52.66 seconds, while Clay Sistrunk is set to compete in the 1600 meter run Saturday.

Hoffman finished exactly one foot behind state champ Mykale Rogers (Lima C.C) and just under six inches behind third-placer Chase Cook (Liberty-Benton).

Hoffman was the only local athlete to stand on the podium Friday, but will likely be joined in all-state status on Saturday.

Waterford’s Allison Rohrer finished fifth in the 100 meter hurdles (15.38) and eighth in the 300 hurdles (46.88) during preliminaries to reach the state finals in both events. With nine athletes expected to compete in the finals on Saturday, Rohrer will have to beat out at least one person in each event to earn All-Ohio honors.

Rohrer also finished 16th in the 200 meter dash on Friday with a time of 27.16. Her teammate Maddy Sury just missed the podium in the long jump, placing ninth with a leap of 16-00.5.

Sury will get another chance in Columbus Saturday in the 800.

Other area thinclads competing at state Friday were Morgan’s Clinton Campbell and Fort Frye’s Natalie Hart and Kylynn Buchanan.

Campbell placed 12th in the 300 hurdles (40.53) and 15th in the 200 (24.10) during prelims while Hart was 12th in the 400 (61.41) and Buchanan was 11th in the pole vault (9-06).

Warren’s Emma Ryan (discus throw) and Raelyn Gardner (pole vault) will compete Saturday in their respective events, as will Caldwell’s Jenna Furr (3200).
