7-on-7 scrimmage: Warren football at Meadowbrook Tuesday

VINCENT – Andy Schob and his football staff will be getting a good look at the quarterbacks and receivers when Warren plays a 7-on-7 scrimmage at Meadowbrook High in Byesville at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Also on the gridiron will be Jay Circosta-coached Monroe Central, Martins Ferry, and Meadowbrook.

“Competing for the QB spot will be senior Austin Klintworth and junior Andrew Henthorn,” said fourth-year Warriors’ head football coach Schob. “Both will get plenty of reps and opportunities, and both bring different qualities.”

Both Klintworth and Henthorn are good athletes at Warren as the former is also a wrestler while the latter plays basketball and baseball.

Either Klintworth or Henthorn will be succeeding school record-breaking signal caller Dylan Leffingwell, who be suiting up for the Ohio University Bobcats next season.

A couple of other 2013 Warren grads playing college football in the fall will be receiver Andrew Vincent at Ohio Northern University and kicker Chas Miller at Marietta College.

One of Warren’s primary pass catchers this upcoming season is expected to be 6-4, 201-pound David Ryan.

“David has done well at camps such as Ohio State, Ohio University, and Pittsburgh this summer,” Schob said.

Overall, Warren is expected to field a relatively veteran squad this season.

According to Schob, the roster “should include 17 seniors, who all should be able to contribute, and 20 juniors.

“Our offensive and defensive lines should be a strength with both size and experience,” Schob said.

After Meadowbrook, Warren is scheduled to play in three more 7-on-7 scrimmages this month. On July 16, the Warriors will be in the Capital University Tournament, and on July 25, they will travel to the Zanesville and Muskingum University tourneys.

After a camp day on July 29, Warren is slated to host Fort Fyre in a 7-on-7 showdown at 6:30 p.m.

Warren’s first official practice is set for Aug. 5, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The Warriors have two scrimmages lined up at home against Point Pleasant (Aug. 17) and at Morgan (Aug. 23).

The season kicks off in earnest at Parkersburg High at 7:30 p.m., Aug. 30.

Warren’s football 2013 football slate features five home games and five road games.
