Eagle, Wildcat golfers advance

CHILLICOTHE – Belpre was the model of consistency at Wednesday’s Ohio Division III sectional meet and kept a streak intact that had a Golden Eagle team or individual advance to districts every year since coach Scott Miller took over in 2007.

At Jaycees Golf Course, Belpre finished with a 331 team score and joined runner-up Waterford (354) as district qualifiers.

“The guys were all pumped, but at the same time they all knew they left a few strokes on the course,” coach Miller said

Belpre’s Sam Petty earned medalist honors with an 80 and was joined in the lineup by Brennen Ferrell (81), Hayden Plummer (85), Alex Perry (85) and Logan Plummer (90).

“I feel good because of the fact that we did better than we did during Saturday’s practice tournament with Division II teams on this same course,” Miller said.

Representing Waterford were Cameron Bosner (83), Jordan Welch (86), Josh Stewart (87) and Alex Branham (98).

Advancing as individuals who were not members of a qualifying team were Miller’s Shaun Hayes (82) and Paint Valley’s Tyler Thompson (84).

The next step in the postseason is Wednesday at River Greens Golf Course in West Lafayette where the east, southeast and central districts converge. The field will include 12 schools with the top four advancing to state.

“I anticipate that we have to do better at districts if we want to continue on,” Miller said.
