Panther XC Invitational Saturday

Of late, Fort Frye and Caldwell have been running neck and neck on the 5K cross country course.

At 9 a.m. Saturday, the two schools are scheduled to compete in the Panther XC Invitational at Pickerington North High.

Also in the field of 37 girls’ and 36 boys’ harrier teams, will be Marietta, Belpre and Waterford.

Warren is slated to race in the Piketon Cross Country Invitational at Piketon High at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The Fort and Caldwell boys were one-two, respectively, in the Division III field at Bob Reall Lancaster Invitational last Saturday, while the Lady Redskins were third and the Lady Cadets fourth.

Senior Jordan Anderson paced the winning Cadets with a clocking of 16 minutes, 52.6 seconds, good for third place overall. Also finishing in the top 20 were Matthew Cheeseman (17:42.8), Ford McElroy (17:55.2), and Matthew Roush (18:21.5). Cameron Hupp crossed the finish line in 19:06.1.

Caldwell junior Tanner Harding was right on Anderson’s heels, placing fourth overall in 17:17.8. Following Harding were Jonathan Niswonger (18:01.1), Sean Whetstone (18:03.8), Benton Parmiter (18:07.2), Alex Gregg (18:52.0), Matt Zwick (18:55.2), and Robby Allen (22:09.10.

On the girls’ side, CHS senior standout Jenna Furr led the way with a time of 20:37.9, good for fifth place overall. Behind Furr were Katie Saling (21:18.8), freshman Lindsey Furr (21:32.4), Haylee Saling (22:12.9), Lexi Waller (22:58.5), Julieghanna Feldner (24:47.9), and Molly Saling (25:00.7).

Pacing the Lady Cadets was freshman Mary Kate McElroy in 20:17.0, good for third place. Katie Hart was next in 21:50.3, then Natalie Hart (21:55.8), Alex Medina (22:4.1), KyLynn Buchanan (24:01.9), Phoebe Thompson (24:33.3), and Sarah Willey.

Expected to represent the Marietta boys’ team at Pickerington North will be Kody Phillips, Jake Haught, Jeffrey Davis, Brandon Neville, Zach Deskins, Joel Bricker, and Brenden Alkire, who all ran at Division I at Bob Reall.

The Lady Tiger girls team will feature Kelsey Hall, Elena Lawson, Nora Torbett, Viola Sullivan, Jenell Betts, Cooper Halliday, and Olivia Wesel.

Waterford’s runners are Eli Strahler, Jacob McCutcheon, Andrew Klintworth, and Maggie Kroll.

Some of Belpre’s team members include sophomore standout Cray Sistrunk, Kyle Windland, Matt Davis, Matt Lopreste, Joel Starner, Kenny Shultz, and Hunter Burkey.

The Lady Eagle harriers are Mackenzie Rice, Sierra Barker, Kira Miller, Kayden Devore, and Ashley Carter.

At Piketon, look for Parker Blain and Sam Goodman to lead Warren. Blain was third overall in 16:59.8 at Bob Reall Division II while Goodman finished sixth in 17:15.3.

The Warrior line-up may also include Brent Ash, Jed McGirr, Matthew Neehouse, Joel Estes, and Lucas Wigal.

Hannah Duggan has been Warren’s top lady harrier, and rest of the royal blue and white starters include Sydney Brague, Kaylee Pate, Savhannah Wray, Allyssa Kern, Maggie McCutcheon, and Zoey Strahler.
