Prep cross country: Fort Frye, Caldwell claim XC crowns
BYESVILLE – Both Fort Frye and Caldwell enjoyed a championship run on the cross country course.
The Alana Cunningham-coached Cadet boys and girls teams each claimed a Cal Pokas OVAC 3A Division title for the second straight year at Meadowbrook High on Saturday.
“Everyone did a nice job,” Cunningham said. “I’m really pleased with everyone stepping up. The boys were actually short-handed.”
Dugan Hill-led Caldwell was the OVAC 2A Division winner in the boys and girls divisions.
Freshman Mary Kate McElroy set a Fort Frye girls’ record with a time of 19 minutes, 14.42 seconds in the 5K distance. The mark was previously held by All-Ohio honoree Sarah Biehl.
The Lady Cadets, who were fourth overall in the team standings, also included Katie Hart (20:27), Alex Medina (21:02), Natalie Hart (22:22), KyLynn Buchanan (22:41), Phoebe Thompson (23:29), and Sarah Willey (34:44).
Senior Jenna Furr led the Lady Redskins, who finished third overall in the team standings with a time of 19:26. Her teammates were Katie Saling (20:12), Lindsey Furr (20:37), Haylee Saling (20:56), Lexi Waller (21:53), Anika VanHoose (22:54), Julieghanna Feldner (23:03), and Molly Saling (23:58).
Cadet Jordan Anderson paced the 3A boys with a clocking of 16:24.37 seconds. The senior standout was followed by teammates’ Matthew Cheeseman (16:33), Ford McElroy (16:56), Matthew Roush (18:43), and Quintin Webb (19:11).
Fort Frye’s boys were fifth overall in the team standings.
Tanner Harding led the Redskin harriers, who were runner-up in the overall team standings, with a time of 16:11.27. His teammates were Jonathan Niswonger (16:40), Matt Zwick (17:24.53), Calvin Parmiter (17:24.86), Sean Whetstone (17:29), Benton Parmiter (17:37), Alex Gregg (18:38), and Derek Riski (20.23).
