Prep volleyball: Fort Frye advances

BYESVILLE – With a three-game sweep over Barnesville at Meadowbrook High School Thursday evening, the Fort Frye High volleyball team claimed a Division III East District sectional title.

The Lady Cadets topped the Lady Shamrocks by scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-23 to improve to 16-5 on the year.

Bailey Thieman led the Cadets with 12 points and four aces. Megan Hesson and Taylor Pennock each had eight kills while Megan Pennock contributed seven kills. Alli Hesson and Alyssa Skinner had 17 and 15 assists, respectively, while Lexi Skinner had a team-high 10 digs. Natalie Smith blocked six Barnesville hits.

It’s the second sectional championship in as many years for the Sam Skinner-coached Cadets. Last season, Fort Frye swept Shenandoah en route winning its sectional before falling to eventual district champ West Muskingum at Cambridge High School.

This year, the Cadets are hoping for a different outcome in the district when they take on top-seeded Ridgewood at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the same location.
