Mat milestone: Warren’s Levi Congleton gets 100th and 101st wins
VINCENT – Levi Congleton was mat-slapper happy two days before Christmas.
Warren’s 120-pound wrestling standout recorded two pins in a Monday home tri-match, giving him 67 career falls.
Congleton, the school’s single-season record holder in pins with 37 last season, flattened Shenandoah’s Evan Snook in a time of 1:44. With that victory, the Warren junior reached the 100 career mark.
“That’s a pretty good milestone,” said Warren head wrestling coach Mike Pahl.
Congleton then followed that up with a pin of River Valley’s Jacob Kemper at the 2:21 mark of the second period.
If Congleton, a Division II state qualifier as a sophomore in the 106-pound weight class with a 42-6 final record, can stay healthy this winter and next, he’s got a good chance of becoming Warren’s all-time career leader in wrestling wins.
Cory Parsons, now grappling at Ohio Valley University, is the current record holder with a 158-32 mark, which includes 100 falls.
Team-wise, at the tri-match, Warren blanked Shenandoah, 48-0, and downed River Valley, 42-24.
Brandon Pahl (285 pounds), Chris Massey (220), Kenny White (182), Casey Parsons (145), Austin Klintworth (152/160), Gage Kaptis (152/160) also posted 2-0 marks for the royal blue and white winners. Peyton Young (170) was 1-1.
Parsons, Klintworth, and White each notched two falls.
“The boys wrestled pretty good,” Mike Pahl said. “We lost one match all night, and that was it.”
Warren is scheduled to compete in the Coaches Corner Invitational at Gallia Academy in Gallipolis Friday at 10 a.m. Marietta High is also expected to be in this invite.
The Tigers’ lineup will probably feature Garrett Davis (170 or 182), Josh Clark (106), Jake Dickson (152), Zanch Hearn (160), and Anthony Winters (170).
