Prep boys basketball: Tigers defeat Bobcats
CAMBRIDGE – Marietta High avenged an early-season setback to Cambridge at Sutton Gym, downing the host Bobcats 59-52 in East Central Ohio League boys’ basketball action Wednesday night.
Braden Riley and Jon Wood each scored 21 points to pace the Mark Duckworth-coached Tigers, who evened their overall record at 7-7 (4-6 ECOL).
The 6-foot-5 Riley also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, while Connor Beavers dished out a game-high six assists.
Corey Hill chipped in with 11 markers for the orange and black winners.
Jordan Watson led CHS (9-8, 4-6) with 14 points. Josh Lewis Lewis added 13, and Zach Padden netted 10.
Marietta and Cambridge were tied at 13-all at the end of one and 25-25 at the intermission.
The Bobcats took a two-point lead (43-41) at the end of the third quarter, but the Tigers rallied and owned the final eight minutes of play, outpointing the host ‘Cats 18-9 to win going away.
Marietta is scheduled to host both Dover Friday at 7:30 p.m., and Belpre Saturday at the same time.
In junior varsity action, Marietta dropped a 59-44 decision to Cambridge. Trent Dawson and Zack Deskins had 14 points apiece to lead the Tigers. John Henry chipped in with 11.
