Warren’s O’Dell to play soccer at Muskingum University

VINCENT – Natalie O’Dell will be working on getting into soccer shape this summer.

The 2014 Warren graduate recently announced that she will be continuing her education and competing on the pitch at Muskingum University in New Concord this upcoming fall.

“That’s great,” said Warren girls head soccer coach Ekrem Eksi of O’Dell’s decision to play at the next level. “Natalie has a wonderful attitude. She’s a terrific kid, who smiles all the time. She never complains.”

Muskingum University is an NCAA Division III school and a member of the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Mary Beth Caudill-coached Fighting Muskies posted an 8-9-2 overall record last season.

Muskingum is scheduled to play at Marietta College on Oct. 15.

An offensive midfielder and all-league performer, the 5-foot-4 O’Dell spent much of her prep career at Warren playing in the shadows of goal-scorers’ Melissa Dickerson, Mackenzie Ullman, Raelyn Gardner, and Raeli Barnes. A team player, she provided stability on the pitch, and was herself always a threat to put the ball into the back of the net.

“Natalie is fast, and was a good team captain for me,” Eksi said. “At the college level, she’ll need to improve on her goal scoring and the technical aspects of the game. And, I believe she’ll manage that. She’ll do her best.”

At Warren, O’Dell was instrumental in helping the Lady Warrior booters claim two consecutive Southeastern Ohio Athletic League championships.

Last fall, when Warren blanked Logan 2-0 to earn a share of the league crown, it was win No. 13, the most compiled during the regular season in the program’s history.

In O’Dell’s junior season, the Warren girls’ soccer team finished as a district finalist for the first time with a 12-2-5 overall record and 5-0-1 mark in the SEOAL.

An all-around athlete, O’Dell was a leg on Warren’s 2014 regional-qualifying 4 by 200 relay team, which also included Katie Rauch, Julia Hamrick and Gardner.

With All-Academic SEOAL honors.to her credit, O’Dell is no slouch in the classroom, either.

O’Dell is the daughter of Kevin and Sabrina O’Dell.
