Jackets rout Knights
KIDWELL -Dakota Watson’s debut as Williamstown’s starting varsity quarterback couldn’t have gone any better.
The Yellowjacket senior rushed for 162 yards and passed for 138 as Williamstown rolled to a 30-7 season-opening win over Tyler Consolidated here Friday night.
In compiling his 300 total yards on the night, Watson also scored Williamstown’s first three touchdowns. The initial score of the game came on a 1-yard plunge with 6:59 left until halftime.
Tyler Consolidated quickly responded as on the Silver Knights’ first scrimmage play, quarterback Jordan Baker broke loose for a 59-yard score that tied the game at 7-all, which remained the score at halftime.
Williamstown dominated the second half, tacking on 23 more points as Watson scored a pair of third-quarter TDs on runs of 5 and 32 yards and Austin Raines scored from 20 yards out with 6:12 left. Trace Elder closed out the scoring with a 30-yard field goal with the clock showing 2:39 remaining.
Williamstown rushed the ball 33 times for 229 yards and Watson completed eight of his 14 passes, three to Michael Beck.
Tyler was led by Baker who rushed for 57 yards and threw for 119. Jace Reed caught four passes for 44 yards for the Knights.
Williamstown will travel to Magnolia next Friday while Tyler Consolidated visits Doddridge County.
